Little girls like dresses

The last few weeks I have been loving my sewing machine more than ever and I have created a ton of things.
Lora wanted me to make her something as well, so I decided to look into some tunics or dresses. Reversible, preferably!

This is what I have come up with.

More sewing..

We have been on a tighter budget these last few weeks, so I have tried to keep myself more busy around the house than usual. I kinda have developed a cleaning routine (sadly...sigh) and in the afternoon I have been sewing a lot.

As you have seen I have created a Mei Tai out of a table cloth and have complete revamped/ upgraded/ pimped my Buckle Tai.

One other project on the list was something for my daughter. She wants to become Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween so I have already made her a cape.

Little Red Riding Hood Cape.

The next thing on my list was to make her a tunic. I browsed the web to get some inspiration and I came up with this. It is a retro tunic and freaking adorable!!!
The one I made for my little girl is not reversible, but the next one will be. Oh boy, the fun I am gonna have with these. This is just so stinking cute. I can't wait to make a few more and maybe list a few in my Etsy store while I am at it.

Little blurry pics, she just woke up, poor thing!

Pimp my Buckle Tai!

My first "real" carrier I bought was a Buckle Tai Carrier, designed by Two Momma Designs .
I was a very comfy carrier for carrying my squishes, but since my youngest has outgrown it by far, it just lied there on the pile of other carriers I barely use.

(This is without the hood)

I changed this SSC carrier for an Ergo, which was slightly bigger and therefor more comfortable. My little buddy has however outgrown this one as well. Or at least I feel like he did. According to the box he can go another 10-15 lbs in it, but I think he is too tall and when I am carrying my kiddos, I don't feel comfy when their arms sway as much as they do and their whole back isn't covered by a panel.

Anyways. I was at Wallyworld today and seen this cute superhero fabric and I remember how much duck cloth I still have. I could basically strip my Buckle Tai and redo everything. Put new fabric over all straps, including the hip strap. Make the panel bigger and add my own custom hood, some suck pads.. and voila I would have a new carrier.

The thoughts of doing this were very ambitious..

When I cut ope my Buckle Tai I instantly regretted it and felt nervous. I constantly went over the whole process in my head how to make this exactly the way I wanted it. I am horrible when it comes to make something from a pattern. I simply do NOT have the patience, so everything goes on the fly. I wing almost everything I do. And usually with success.

I took off the straps, the buckles on the side and the hip strap. I left those intact. I didn't cut in it. The extra fabric on it wasn't going to bother me since it was going to be covered anyways. It would add strength to it, if anything.

I used the size of the body panel of my latest Mei Tai I made and traced it. I did not leave the body panel square however. I did a half moon of some sort on each side, so the fabric would't run my son on his legs or arms. I used a double duck cloth for the inside and on the outside I used black for the inside of the carrier and the superhero print for the outside.

I kept the shoulder straps and hip straps the way they are. I put a new piece of fabric over them and sowed the whole thing shut. So it looks like the straps have been black forever. It added some extra padding to my shoulders to do it this way.

I started getting really excited. This was going to look awesome! It was time to piece and sow everything together. This was the easiest in my opinion.
I added a hood I designed myself. The hood is attached with snaps. I also made suck pads to go with it. My son really likes to chew on everything, and this way my new straps would be protected :) I put washcloth on the inside of my suck pads so they will absorb moisture very well. I also added taggies so he has something to keep him occupied with.

I am really happy with the result. Can't wait to show it off :)

DIY Mei Tai

I have been baby wearing for a while now. I own several carriers myself. A few I made myself for when my son was born. I followed a group on Facebook before I actually tried a table cloth carrier.

Sounds weird doesn't it? But you are going to be surprised how cheap and easy it is to make.
I have already made a short wrap out of a grey tablecloth, but this time I wanted to try to make a Mei Tai, because my son is getting so tall he is out growing my Soft Structured Carriers (SSC) and I really can't afford $170 for a Toddler Tula right now.

So off to Target I went. They usually have tablecloths on clearance and they just look nicer than Walmart. The prints are in my opinion better. Another store that is good for clearance items like tablecloths is TJ Maxx, Ross, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
Also your trusted thrift store around the corner is a good place to find cheap tablecloths :)

I found this beauty at Target. It looked like a nice
Fall print to me, so I picked it up.

The idea initially was to make a wrap, but when I got home I checked out a tutorial I have seen and decided to make a Mei Tai.

And this is what I made out of it.

The hood is my own design. Basically the straps are so wide it basically is a Wrap Conversion
Mei Tai. It feels so comfy when I wear my son. He is 18 months old and weighs 28 lbs, so he's a big boy.

Here he is all smiles :)

I have used it for a few days and decided it needed to be a bit more boy-ish though.
I have been experimenting with dying and I decided to dye it blue.

Catching up

It has been forever since I checked out my blog and oh my did a lot change.
I am not only mama to Lora, but also to Jesse my beautiful boy, who is almost 18 months old now.

I am still crafty as ever. I have created many blankets (will post pictures) and even baby carriers.
Currently I am even dying my first Osnaburg baby wrap, so wish me luck!

My husband got me a sewing machine late 2012 and I am having fun with it ever since. The first thing I wanted to do was making quilts. Thing is: I am new to this and patience is not my last name.
Instead I have been making quilted comforters for my kids.

I started off with this Hello Kitty blanket. As backing I used a green fleece blanket I had on hand. Nothing too fancy, but not bad for a first project.

Then my next one was a bit better. I actually went to Hobby Lobby to get some fabric and this is what I came up with. The comforter has quilt batting in it. The outside isn't finished yet in this pic, but I used a brown binding for it. It looks really nice.

My last blanket I made is a black/ green theme. I found this cute fabric with whales on it and I just had to make something for my son. I browsed Pinterest for hours to get some ideas and this is what I have come up with.

I will post some of the projects I have done over the last 2 years as well. Some are cooking. Some are just stuff I find on Pinterest. Keeping busy is what I do.

I hope you enjoyed reading and don't forget to follow me!
